Privacy Policy
What we collect, why, and how it's handled — as specifically as we can make it.
Who This Policy Covers
This policy explains how Navigate Japan Limited ("NJL", "we", "us"), operating the free AI-assisted music catalogue Navigate Vibes, collects and handles personal information. It applies to anyone who contacts us through the Navigate Vibes website — creators, prospective business partners, press, or anyone with a question.
It does not cover what happens when you stream or interact with our music on third-party platforms like Spotify, Apple Music, YouTube, or TikTok — those services have their own privacy policies, explained further in Section 5.
Information We Collect
We only collect information you choose to give us directly, through the contact form on our website.
| What we collect | When |
|---|---|
| Name and email address | When you submit the contact form |
| The reason for your message (business collaboration, creator question, press, other) and your message itself | When you submit the contact form |
We don't use cookies for advertising or tracking, and we don't collect information about you simply for browsing the site.
How We Use Your Information
- To respond to your message.
- To discuss and, where relevant, formalise business or brand collaborations.
- To meet our own accounting and legal obligations, where a conversation leads to a paid arrangement.
We don't sell personal information, and we don't use it for anything unrelated to the above without asking first.
The Legal Framework
As a New Zealand company, NJL is subject to the Privacy Act 2020, built around Information Privacy Principles (IPPs). Following the Privacy Amendment Act 2025, there are now 14 principles, not the 13 originally enacted — a new principle, IPP 3A, took effect from 1 May 2026 and addresses information collected about someone otherwise than directly from that person.
Does Japanese law apply too?
Japan's Act on the Protection of Personal Information (APPI) can apply to businesses outside Japan that provide goods or services to people located there. Most of Navigate Vibes' audience listens through third-party platforms, which are separately responsible for that data — but the site's Japanese-language version means this is worth revisiting with counsel if direct, Japan-specific data collection grows beyond the contact form described in Section 2.
The Privacy Act's other principles cover, among other things: collecting information only for a lawful purpose (IPP 1); collecting it fairly and directly where practical (IPPs 2–4); keeping it secure (IPP 5); letting you see and correct your own information (IPPs 6–7); keeping it accurate and not for longer than needed (IPPs 8–9); and restricting further use, disclosure, and cross-border transfer (IPPs 10–12).
Third-Party Platforms
Navigate Vibes music is distributed through Spotify, Apple Music, YouTube, TikTok, Amazon Music, and other platforms. When you stream, follow, or interact with our tracks there, that platform — not Navigate Japan Limited — collects and handles your data, under its own privacy policy. We don't receive your personal listening data from these platforms; we only see aggregated statistics like total streams by country.
Data Retention and Security
We keep contact-form submissions only as long as needed to respond to you and, where relevant, to keep a record of any resulting business arrangement. We take reasonable steps, consistent with IPP 5, to protect information against loss, misuse, and unauthorised access.
Your Rights
Under the Privacy Act 2020, you can ask to see the personal information we hold about you and ask us to correct it if it's wrong. Contact us using the details in Section 9 to do either — we'll respond within a reasonable time and may need to verify your identity first.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy as Navigate Vibes grows. The version number and date at the top of this page will always reflect the current version.
